Back To School Series: The Constant Reading Struggle

  • 1121 Ottawa Beach Road Suite 140 Holland, MI 49424 United States (map)

Imagine being a child trying to read and the text is blurry, double, or even appears to be moving. You've seen this way your entire life and don't realize that it's any different than any other person. You've passed your school vision screening and yet you're still getting headaches and dread doing schoolwork or anything related to reading, including math story problems.

Did you know, this occurs with 1 out of every 4 students? Unfortunately, a functional vision problem can still exist even with 20/20 vision for seeing the board.

Is your child struggling to read? Have you noticed any of the signs or symptoms below?:

  • Takes excessive time to complete homework

  • Must re-read for comprehension

  • Complains of headaches

  • Loses place while reading

  • Skips or repeats lines and words

  • Eyestrain (tired eyes), rubbing eyes, excessive blinking

  • Fatigue, irritability toward schoolwork or reading

If these signs or symptoms sound familiar, join us for a discussion with developmental optometrist, Dr. Neil Renaud. As you research tutoring options, take a moment to also learn about functional vision problems that may be hindering your child's ability to read. Take the next step and register today!

At this workshop, you'll learn:

  • Simple screening tools to check for one of the most common functional vision problems

  • Signs and symptoms of a functional vision problem

  • What to do if you suspect a vision problem
