Pediatric Vision Problems: The Connection Between Vision, Learning & Behavior

Pediatricians are at the front line of children’s health and behavior. Along with teachers, parents seek guidance and support from their pediatrician when children are struggling with behavior in school, headaches, and learning difficulties. While there are many things that contribute to a child’s behavior, vision can often play a big role in it.

Unfortunately, 1 in 4 children has a learning-related vision impairment affecting their near vision, even if they see 20/20 far away and pass their vision screening. These children can continually struggle with vision issues while reading, including headaches, eyestrain, visual fatigue, double and blurry vision and tracking inaccurately across the page while reading. For the children that are dealing with ADHD and dyslexia, a vision problem can greatly complicate overcoming these learning struggles.
